Botanical Name: Citrus sinensis. Other names are Citrus aurantiumvardulcis and citrus aurantiumvardulcis sinensis. It is also known as Portugal or China orange.
Common Method of Extraction: The common method of extraction is by cold pressing. Oil of orange comes from the small sacks in the outer part of the skin. The yield is 0.3 to 0.5%. It takes about 1000 oranges roughly to get 20 ounces of oil. The process of extraction being cold-pressing it allows toxic substances like pesticides to be part of the oil.
